Where to Use
Recommended for properly prepared interior and exterior weathered or cracked horizontal and vertical wood and composite surfaces such as Decks, Railings, Porches and Boat Docks. Also great for concrete surfaces such as Pool Decks, Patios and Sidewalks. Do not use on drivable surfaces such as garage floors.

Proper surface preparation is required.
- Exterior Wood Surfaces: Replace rotting or unstable boards and remove loose splinters.
- For failing coatings or to remove loose wood fibers, use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM® No. 64 Wood Stain & Finish Stripper followed by BEHR PREMIUM® No. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner to neutralize the wood.
- When No. 64 is not needed, a product such as No. 63 MUST be used to remove mill glaze and clean the wood surface.
- After using either No. 64 or No. 63, rinse thoroughly with a garden hose or pressure washer.
- When rinsing with a pressure washer, use the broadest spray pattern while keeping the nozzle at least 24" away from the surface. Allow area to dry at least 24 hours before coating. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers/fuzz.
- Concrete Surfaces: Avoid areas that are structurally weak or subject to hydrostatic pressure above 8 psi.
- Allow new surfaces to cure for 30 days.
- Use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM No. 992 Concrete & Masonry Paint Stripper to strip peeling coating.
- Use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM No. 991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher to clean and etch uncoated concrete or No. 990 Concrete & Masonry Degreaser & Cleaner on sound, coated surfaces prior to coating.
- Use product when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90˚ F (10-32˚ C).
- Avoid applying in direct sunlight or to hot surfaces. Do not use if rain is expected within 24 hours. The surface must be completely dry before application.
- Avoid painting if humidity is expected to be greater than 80%.
- Intermix multiple containers to ensure color uniformity. Stir product occasionally throughout application.
- DO NOT THIN PRODUCT. For nail holes and cracks up to 1/4", completely fill in with Textured DECKOVER® coating using a nylon/polyester brush and allow to dry prior to rolling.
- Deep nail holes and cracks may require additional filling.
- For edges, corners and in between wood boards, apply using a nylon/polyester brush.
- Use pressure while rolling and apply a generous, even coat using a 1/2" nap roller.
- For a smoother texture, use a brush or thinner nap roller (i.e. 1/4").
- For vertical surfaces such as railings, use a nylon/polyester brush or roller and apply two thin coats at a spread rate of 400 sq. ft. per gallon.
- Do not use with airless sprayer.
- For optimum performance, film uniformity, leveling and to cover cracks, a second coat MUST be applied.
- Maintain a wet edge when applying.
- 4-6 hours before recoat. Dries to touch in 4 hours.
- Wait 24-48 hours before light foot traffic. 72 hours to full cure.
- Additional dry time may be needed in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.
- Premature heavy traffic will cause coating failure.

Proper surface preparation is the key to attaining a beautiful appearance and achieving long-lasting durability.Can a pressure washer be used to properly prepare my surface before coating it with BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating?
After using the proper cleaner/stripper, rinse thoroughly with a garden hose or pressure washer. When rinsing with a pressure washer, use the broadest spray pattern while keeping the nozzle at least 24” away from the surface. Allow the area to dry at least 24 hours before coating. Use a stiff bristle broom to remove any loose or peeling coating from the surface prior to using No. 64. Applying and removing a strip of tape on the wood surface (to see if any coating comes up) will help evaluate the integrity of the surface. If the previous coating is in sound condition, you may proceed by cleaning the surface with a product such as BEHR PREMIUM NO. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner before applying BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating. Follow all label instructions.When filling 1/4" cracks, how can I tell if too much product was applied?
When filling cracks and holes with BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating, completely fill in the area with enough product so that the level of liquid is even with the surface of the wood. The coating will slightly shrink into the cracks after drying so another filling application may be necessary to level the surface.How do I handle cracks larger than 1/4"?
BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating is a high build, flexible coating that can withstand minor expansion & contraction of wood. For nail holes and cracks up to 1/4”, completely fill in with DECKOVER Coating using a nylon/polyester brush and allow to dry prior to rolling. Deep nail holes and cracks may require additional filling. For cracks larger than 1/4”, you may use commercially available patching compounds, wood fillers and caulks. Make sure the product states “paintable” for BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER compatibility.How much dry time is recommended before a full coat is applied after filling cracks?

No. The surface must be clean and completely dry before coating. Avoid painting in conditions of low temperature and high humidity (or presence of moisture, condensation, dew, etc.). Do not paint if rain is expected within 24 hours.What is the recommended roller size to apply BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating?
We recommend using a 1/2” nap roller. For a smoother texture, use a brush or thinner nap roller (i.e. 1/4”). For Extra Textured DECKOVER, we strongly recommend using the special DECKOVER Extra Textured Roller Cover.Can I use a thicker roller?
Yes, you can use a thicker roller (i.e. 1/2”-3/4” nap) only when applying BEHR PREMIUM Smooth or Textured DECKOVER Coating (not Extra Textured DECKOVER). Please keep in mind that by using a thicker nap roller, you will increase the texture of the dried film and may possibly decrease the spread rate of the product. Follow the label directions of 4-6 hour recoat time. Additional dry time may be needed in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.Can I use an airless sprayer to apply BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating?
Airless spray is recommended for experienced applicators only. Follow all label instructions and use the correct tip size as described on the label. When spraying vertical surfaces, apply a very thin coat (one pass only per coat) and do not back brush/roll.
Please note that airless spray cannot be used with Textured DECKOVER® and Extra Textured DECKOVER®.Does slip-resistance performance change if I use a brush vs. roller?
No. Although applying with a roller may give you a more textured surface, we have tested the coating for slip resistance with both application methods and they both meet the requirements to pass the anti-slip test.Why are the spread rates so different when applying BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating on horizontal and vertical surfaces?
Horizontal surfaces require a thicker coating to achieve a much more durable finish than vertical surfaces. Vertical surfaces require two thin coats resulting in less mil thickness.Can I apply only one coat of BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating?
No. Two coats of BEHR PREMIUM DECKOVER Coating is required to create an even finish and to help ensure maximum durability.

The 100% acrylic binder helps resist UV and can normally withstand the damaging effects of sun exposure. Color may naturally fade over time depending on the color you choose. Regardless of the coating used, darker color paints and stains will generally retain heat more than lighter colors. If you are concerned with heat retention, then we recommend choosing a lighter color for your project.
